Ash signs ‘Robot’ for 1.5 crores

After the mind-blowing success of ‘Shivaji: The Boss’, director Shankar had announced that he will repeat the 57-year-old actor Rajnikant in ‘Robot‘ - a Rs.1 billion film, which the industry predicts will be a greater success. Maestro A.R. Rahman will compose the music. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages and will be distributed by London-based Ayingaran International.

Aishwarya Rai has been roped in by Shankar to pair opposite Rajnikant. Ash has signed the film for 1.5 crores and she has replaced Deepika Padukone who was considered earlier for the role. With this Rajnikanth has fulfilled his desire to work with Ash who couldn’t do Sivaji due to date problems. Meanwhile the official contract of the film has been approved by Amitabh Bachchan himself after altering few clauses and signed by Aishwarya.

Kareena to launch her own clothing line

Film stars have always done more than just make movies.

They've endorsed brands, launched their own perfumes, run their own restaurants, joined politics, and lots more.

Now, it's the turn of Kareena Kapoor to do more than steal the year's acting honours with her turn in Jab We Met, which everyone is tipping to sweep all awards going.

The actress has launched her own clothing line, the second Bollywood star to do so after John Abraham.

Kareena has always been so trendy, we can't help but wonder what took her so long!

Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu will stop batting their eyelashes and do something worthy in the acting department

Sure, both Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu may have enjoyed a good run at the box office this year, but little credit can go to them. Katrina simply mooches off of big stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan to ensure box office successes. Out of five films this year, we only really saw her act in Namastey London. Bipasha Basu on the other hand had quite a boring year with a miniscule role in Goal and a bizarre item number in No Smoking. We've seen Bipasha do it in Corporate and we know Katrina has it in her. The problem is…will we ever get to see the talent a real actress is supposed to have?

Akshay v/s Khans battle heats up

Apart from Shah Rukh, Akshay Kumar is now the only other male Bollywood star to have a guaranteed overseas box office following. His releases like 'Namastey London', 'Heyy Babyy', 'Bhool Bhulaiya' and 'Welcome' have all made it to the UK Top 10.

Says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Akshay is certainly hot property in the overseas market today. His films have done extremely well both in India and abroad and box-office collections clearly prove that in the overseas market he's one force to reckon with apart from Shah Rukh."

A film distributor reveals, "SRK has so far been the untouched king in the overseas market. But Akki's popularity abroad is soaring. His films are being lapped up by overseas distributors with ever-rising prices. Even his films like Dosti (No. 5 in UK charts) that have not done well here, have seen several houseful weeks abroad. So, that way he's a super hit hero and has been consistent in giving hits."

Deepika Padukone fails to impress the Roshans

Things seemed starry for the newcomer Deepika Padukone when she was chosen for Hrithik Roshan’s next after a dizzing success of her debut ‘OSO’.

However, the film which is based on Latin dance, requires the leading lady to be skilled in Salsa. Where Hrithik’s dancing skills need no mention, Deepika failed to impress the Roshans on the dance floor. So, Deepika was opted out of this movie which will be directed by Anurag Basu.

To cheer up the lady, Rakesh Roshan has promised her that she would soon be signing their next production. How very kind of Mr. Roshan, right!

New Year’s eve happens to be a big time event for everyone- for the urban crowd who gets to do some hip-shaking with the view of his or hers favorite Bollywood star’s performance and for the Bollywood babes who pocket in a lucrative sum for a few minutes performance. Take a look at this:

Dusky beauty Bipasha Basu (who is making a new year performance for the first time this year) is reportedly charging Rs. 90 Lakhs for her performance at J.W.Mariott, Juhu.

The Drama Queen Rakhi Sawant alongwith her boyfriend, Abhishek Awasthi, and DJ Whosane will also be performing on New Year’s Eve at Tulip Star Hotel, Juhu. Rakhi is reported to have charged the organizers a whopping Rs. 51 lakhs for her performance.

Next in the queue are Koena Mitra and Tanushree Dutta, who will be joined along with the songster Mika in Sahara Star, Mumbai. Koena is supposedly charging the organizers Rs 27 lakhs for her 16 minute performance whereas Tanushree Dutta has been signed for Rs 15 lakhs for her 24 minutes performance.

There are other celebs too performing at different cities and charging as per their popularity. Amrita Arora (performing in Bangalore) is charging 12 lakhs, Malaika Arora (performing in Delhi) is charging 25-30 lakhs, Neha Dhupia (performing in Ahmedabad) is charging 15-20 lakhs, and Mahima Choudhary (performing in Kolkatta) is charging 5 lakhs.

Katrina Kaif: Meaty roles for this damse

How far have you achieved as an actress in Welcome?
Films like Welcome and Partner are targeted at the audience. They’re important to me in terms of commercial viability. But if you ask me how far I’ve come as an actress, then films like Namaste London are more viable options as they give me larger scope to perform.

What have been the highlights of the year 2007 for you?
I had Namaste London, Apne, Partner, and Welcome… all these meant a lot to me.

And what were your personal achievements?
I was able to move ahead with certain things in my family – in terms of achieving a sense of security. Acquiring my house was also something that made me happy.

Do you have any particular ambition for the New Year?
Yes, I hope someone will offer me a role with a very strong character like the one I had in Namaste London! Hopefully 2008 will be an even more exciting year. I am looking forward to work with different film-makers and do projects that might give me the scope to perform. I have already signed some films for the next year, which look promising.

How come you agreed to do the Yash Raj multi-starer along with Ranbir, Bipasha, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba?
I can’t say much about it right now, since YashRaj has not yet done any news publicity. When people see the film, they’ll understand why I chose to do this role.

How is Subhash Ghai’s Main Yuvraj shaping up?
It’s shaping up extremely well. This is one film where my role is very important. I’m really happy because this film gives me scope to act.

Deepika out of Roshan's film

Rakesh Roshan has turned down OSO girl Deepika Padukone. The film, starring Hrithik Roshan could have been Deepika's ticket to the A-list in Bollywood.

Our sources, however, say that Deepika was not suitable for the role so she was shown the door. When contacted Rakesh Roshan confirms that they are not going ahead with Deepika.

He says, "I am in the process of working on a film which will be directed by Anurag Basu. We may work with Deepika for some other film. "Anurag Basu, who is directing the film endorses, "We are yet scouting for the female lead."

As for Deepika, he says, "Deepika didn't fit the role. We'll definitely work with her in future for some other project. It's quite a complex character and we are looking out for a female lead."

After they dumped Deepika, Roshans are now looking at casting a non-Indian for the role. Says a source, "Roshan's production house and Anurag have been auditioning girls. The female lead needs to be a salsa dancer."

The film is a romantic-action-thriller which will be shot abroad. It is scheduled to go on the floors by March 2008. Apparently, the film is based on Latin dance forms and Hrithik will be seen performing a lot of salsa.

Dia Mirza matches comic pace with Cyrus Broacha

When it comes to finding a co-star to match the Cyrus Boracha’s whacky comic sense, it is a tough job. This was a truly massive task for director Kunal Vijaykar who was in search for a female co-star to cast opposite Cyrus in his comic caper ‘Fruit and Nut’. Finally, the director zeroed in on one lady who was none other than Dia Mirza.

Going by her delicate looks, Dia may seem an odd choice but she just seemed to fit the bill. Unit Members say that C & D (Cyrus and Dia obviously) liven up the sets with their jokes and mischief.

King Shahrukh Khan in making of Rs 1 Billion Movie for Kids

King Khan is now on move to make a children movie loaded with special effects for whopping $ 25 million (Rs1 billion) as the costliest movie ever made in Bollywood. The rs 100 crore movie is to be produced in VFX medium using special computer- generated special effects. Shah Rukh disclosed the plan for the movie in an interview to Patrick Frater of Hollywood’s top trade magazine variety at Berlin film festival recently.

He is in communication with Eros Multimedia and Charles Darby (Related to Matrix and Minority Report) visual effect expert who has stake in Eros to start special effects Eyeqube studios in Mumbai.
Shah Rukh told he was producing movie under his home banner Red Chillies Production to be directed by Anubhav Sinha. He said, “We are dedicating the next eight or nine months to taking the best technicians from around the world and asking them to help us make the best VFX film India has ever made. It will be madcap, over the top. I want it to be as beautiful as Spider-Man in terms of effects,” Khan told Variety.

In the response to the question whether he was not courted by Hollywood he said, “I’m waiting for someone like Steven Spielberg or James Cameroon (of Titanic fame) or some other great person like Ang Lee to make a film, a film about a brown, thin, scrawny Indian guy who doesn’t speak English too well. If they ever have a character like that and Google it, I’m sure they’ll find me.”

During the interview he also admitted his home production movie Om Shanti Om was full of clichés of Indian cinema.

We as family want to go beyond moviemaking: Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai says she as well as the Bachchan household wants to do much more than moviemaking, and the opening of a rural school for girls in Uttar Pradesh named after her is the first step in that direction.
"I'm so glad I have married into a family that feels the same. They're very sensitive about life itself and I'm very glad that we as a family feel the need to do a lot more beyond our craft," Aishwarya, who is the daughter-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan, told IANS in a telephonic interview.
"This is our initial step in this direction and with everybody's support and blessings, we should be able to do a lot more in life ahead."
Aishwarya does not mind the constant public glare when something as innocuous as visiting a temple with her in-laws draws the paparazzi by the hordes.
"I think, as Pa (superstar Amitabh) has very rightly put it in several interviews before me, the fact is that today there is just a lot more media attention. We have always gone to temples or places of worship individually, even before I married into this family.
"It's just a way of life, but I guess with the widespread reach of the media today and with them being everywhere and with the number of television channels and websites and newspapers and magazines, it's going to happen," she said.
Recently, an Indian television channel, India TV, claimed that Aishwarya and top Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie could be related as research has shown that all blue-eyed people have common ancestry from centuries ago.
"This is crazy," the surprised actress broke into peals of laughter. Like most of the times, she was completely rooted to the ground, unfazed by "the strange biological parallel."
Commenting on her "foray" into Hollywood, Aishwarya said: "You know I've always said that it is not a foray - I'm not going anywhere.
"I'm just very glad of the fact that I've been fortunate enough to be able to work in cinema in the larger sense of the term, irrespective of the language or the place in the world it has been made in.
"So, be it Tamil movies; be it a Bengali film; Hindi movies; and a couple of English movies; time is a huge deciding factor in my schedule. The last English film I acted in was 'The Pink Panther 2', which will be released probably by the end of the year or early next year. Let's see what the future holds for me (in Hollywood)!"
Aishwarya will be on board for a Tamil film directed by Shankar opposite Tamil superstar Rajnikant. Titled "Robot", the film is a Rs.1 billion-project and it will be her second movie with Shankar after "Jeans" in 1988.
Incidentally, the 57-year-old southern icon Rajnikant has a daughter named Aishwarya.
Speaking about her forthcoming release "Jodhaa Akbar", which releases worldwide Feb 15, the actress said: "The decision was an instant 'Yes!' Given the character and the script and the subject, it is an actor's dream to be part of such a project."
Asked how it was working with Hrithik Roshan on two movies - "Dhoom 2" and "Jodhaa Akbar" - back-to-back, she said: "I was very lucky to get to work with Hrithik in two movies. They were so diverse in genre, energy and personality.
"At one end is 'Dhoom 2', which was so contemporary - joyous, fast and bold and today and fun! It was just wild energy. At the other end, we immediately delved into the subject with 'Jodhaa Akbar', which is so detailed, so researched and yet so pure, so spontaneous and innocent."
Aishwarya and Hrithik shared good screen chemistry in "Dhoom". And in "Jodhaa Akbar", the vibes were just as good.
"Hrithik and I became friends on the sets of 'Dhoom' because we were all part of a team working in the movie. Hrithik and (my husband) Abhishek grew up together. They were childhood friends and I instantly became a part of the team.
"The energy that we share, the comfort level that we share; I think that is what translates into chemistry on screen."
Talking about her swashbuckling, sword-fighting scene, Aishwarya said she had not undergone any formal training: "The Hollywood film 'The Last Legion' was my first experience of sword-fighting and I took to it instantly. But even here, there was no time for any kind of formal training. We did it right there on the sets."
The former Miss World will also star in a Hindi film by Sriram Raghavan, featuring John Abraham.
"He is putting the final touches to the script. When he is ready with the script, we'll decide on the schedule and when it will go on the floor."

We as family want to go beyond moviemaking: Aishwarya Rai

Small or big screen, Shah Rukh Khan is the king. He acts, dances, plays host - in short he is a true entertainer. After being on a winning spree with two blockbusters "Chak De! India" and "Om Shanti Om", he turns to television this year with two game shows.

The first one is tentatively titled "Bade Hue to Kya Hua", which is formatted on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader", a US-based game show featuring adult contestants facing questions picked directly from the textbooks of first to fifth graders.

It will be aired on STAR Plus. "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" is very popular abroad and is running in 50 countries.

Produced by Siddharth Basu's Synergy Adlabs, this is Shah Rukh's second game show for the company after the hugely successful "Kaun Banega Crorepati 3" (KBC) for the same channel.

"Shah Rukh will be hosting the Indian version of 'Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader', the biggest reality show of the past year in the US, which will be produced by Synergy Adlabs," Basu, head of Synergy Adlabs, earlier told IANS.

Reports suggest that Shah Rukh will also host the fourth season of KBC.

"We don't know when KBC is going to happen. It might come after 'Bade Hue to Kya Hua' or the end of the year. According to the contract signed between Shah Rukh and STAR, he will finish the series he has signed for," said a source close to STAR Plus.

For his first stint on KBC, Shah Rukh apparently got Rs.10 million per episode, but his remuneration for the new show is still under wraps.

Not only in films and television, he is an even bigger king of the advertising world. The superstar has paid an advance tax of Rs.270 million ($6.8 million) on his estimated income during the current financial year of 2007-08, but a major share of it has gone into paying for his income from endorsing a slew of products and other sources.

Sources in the advertising agency for which the superstar has worked reveal that his income from endorsements fetches him Rs.1.5 billion ($38 million) a year, the highest for any Indian advertising "model".

Apart from that Shah Rukh is the costliest celebrity guest. When actors like Malaika Arora Khan, Dia Mirza and Isha Koppikar charge nearly Rs.1 million to perform at a marriage, the Badshah of Bollywood charges Rs.10 million to just grace the function and add glamour.

Aftab Shivdasani and Hansikaa Motwani - New love-birds?

They would make the cutest pair in the tinsel town. If the sources are to be believed former child actors (of course grown-ups now) Aftab Shivdasani and Hansika Motwani are seeing each other.

The pair has been spotted on numerous occasions, in Mauritius, enjoying each other’s company and generally living it up. The two actors are in Mauritius as per their shooting commitments.

It so happened that one fine day, the cast and crew of the ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ began asking actress Hansikaa Motwani what actor Aftab Shivdasani was doing in her room. Shocked by the question, she tried her level best to explain that Aftab had never entered her room and that they had got it all wrong. After thirty minutes of justifications and explanations, Hansikaa was almost on the verge of tears when Govinda told her that it was just a joke they were playing on her.

There is no smoke without fire, dear Hansikaa!

Salman gets waxed fully clothed at Madame Tussauds

Bollywood celebrities have been permanent visitors of London's Madame Tussauds – Amitabh Bachchan was the first in 2000, the Bachchan bahu Aishwarya Rai joined him four years later and last year, it was Shah Rukh Khan who had his wax work installed there. And next in line is actor Salman Khan who is all set to join this stellar company.

With Bollywood’s latest entry at the wax museum one wonders whether there might soon be a Bollywood corner or even a whole floor for stars from the Hindi film industry at Madame Tussauds. And going by the crowds that Bollywood stars draw, this might be sooner than later.

“Bollywood stars are very popular. We will certainly keep our eye on that and will have whoever our visitors vote for,” Global External Relations of Madame Tussauds, Nicky Hobbs said.

Salman was selected after a Bollywood poll in August this year and the actor seems quite excited at the thought of being immortalised in wax.

About 150 kgs of wax and four months of work is believed to have gone into creating the wax Salman. The actor has even personally given a copy of a bracelet his father had given him to decorate the wax model.

And before you wonder, yes, he will be fully attired in signature jeans and a T-shirt. “We are grateful to Harley Davidson for providing the clothes, especially the boots,” Hobbs said.

So come January 15 and you know where Bollywood fans are headed in the UK.

Mallika Sherawat to play prostitute-turned-politician

SRK explains 5 stages of an actor for new faces

Shah Rukh Khan explains the 5 stages of an actor. The year 2007 saw many new faces making their big debuts on the silver screen. The most celebrated ones, undoubtedly, were Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor who were endorsed through every possible medium through their celebrity parents. Deepika Padukone had the goodwill of Shah Rukh Khan to promote her as the next big thing, despite having no film family background to back her.

Then came the least known amongst them all who apart from not having any godfather in the industry also didn’t have the chocolate boy looks that Bollywood heroes are made off. His name was Nikhil Dwivedi. And though he too was linked with Shah Rukh as being his close associate, a tag for which any newcomer would die for, Nikhil always modestly and politely declined to be the next star launch from King Khan. Perhaps he was waiting for SRK to make that statement himself. And the king just did that.

Shilpa game for another reality show

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has revealed that she would love to be a part of BBC’s reality show Strictly Come Dancing.

The 32-year-old actress said that she was part of the Indian version of the British dancing show, so if an offer comes from the BBC’s reality show she would definitely like to consider it.

“I was a judge on Strictly Come Dancing in India, so that’s something I would consider,” the Daily Express quoted her, as saying.

The actress was earlier a part of the reality show Celebrity Big Brother in which she was caught in an international racism controversy, which involved her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd.

However, Shilpa was crowned the winner of the British show on 28 January 2007 with 63 percent of the final vote.

But now, she is adamant, that she would never do a Big Brother-type project again.
“I couldn’t do with having cameras on me all the time again,” she said.

Since Big Brother the Indian beauty has launched her own perfume and landed the leading role in the musical Miss Bollywood , which closed in London on Thursday.
