Priyanka Chopra not starving herself for 'Fashion'

Priyanka Chopra rebuffs rumours that she has lost weight to play a model in Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion".

"It's the silliest story I've heard about myself in a long time.... on a par with the one about me being in Sydney with Harman Baweja for the New Year when I was actually shooting an ad in Bangkok," Priyanka told IANS.
"No, nobody has told me to do anything for the role in 'Fashion'. Madhur Bhandarkar and I share great rapport. He didn't ask me to lose weight for the character," she added.
However, Priyanka has worked on herself for her next two roles as well.
"I always like to work on my character. That's why I work on one film at a time. For 'Fashion' I opted for a toned body. I went on a health-conscious diet, though I didn't cut down on my food or anything. And I'll be using the same physique for my film with Karan Johar," she said.
"It's set on the beach of Miami. Imagine two months on the sun and sand and so the toned body would be just what the dietician ordered. But, sorry, I don't get into a bikini for Karan's film," Priyanka was firm.
Karan's film also features Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. Priyanka says she doesn't endorse anorexic figures.
"It isn't about getting thin at all. It's just about toning my body. I don't think you need to be reed-thin to be beautiful. I think Indian women look terrible when they try to get anorexic. We (Indian women) are naturally healthy. And by that I don't mean voluptuous," she says.
"But, yes, we've been given a certain kind of figure. We're well proportioned and aesthetically endowed in all the right places. And by getting exceptionally thin, we're going against nature."
Told that her co-star Kangana Ranaut is inherently reed-slim, Priyanka laughed: "Yes, but she loves her food. She just has her own individual body type. Kangana and I share plenty of health tips. We got along really well. I really think she's sweet.
"When Madhur decided to cast Kangana, I was so happy. She really suits her part. So, the other story that really bugs is that we're fighting over scenes in 'Fashion'. On the contrary we've a lot of fun together."

SRK - Give way girls, the item boys have come!

The craze for his six-pack abs in ‘Drad-e-disco’ had just started waning, that he has come up again beaming with energy in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Krazzy 4’. Yes, guessed it right. Shahrukh will be seen in an item number in the movie dancing to the tunes of Rajesh Roshan on an English song titled ‘Break Free’, rendered by Vishal.

Hrithik’s designer in Dhoom 2, Anahita Shroff has worked on Shah Rukh’s look and appearance in the item number. It is both a combination of sophistication and killer instinct. Anahita gave him the ideal look with a white shirt and black trouser, which was the first look and then gave him the combo of red and black. In addition to that, a black designer holster was added in order to portray a classy façade.

Everyone of the movie’s team is all praises for SRK. “Hrithik was to do the song, but due to his knee injury, we were in a dilemma of sorts. I approached Shah Rukh and he very kindly agreed to bail us out,” explains Rakesh. “The song required energy, and that’s what Shah Rukh has in abundance.”

Director Jaideep Sen tells us, “Shah Rukh plays a superstar performing at an award function. The situation required a larger than life stage and a larger than life personality. Shah Rukh has taken it to another level altogether.”

Mallika Sherawat to play Jesus Christ’s firend

In 1894 a Russian doctor, Nicholas Notovitch, published a book called The Unknown Life of Christ, in which he claimed that while recovering from a broken leg in a Tibetan monastery in the Ladakh region, close to Kashmir, he had been shown evidence of Christ’s Indian wanderings. The book traces the years in Christ’s life from the age of 13 to 30, of which there is no record in history.

Now, an Australian filmmaker Drew Heriot’s is coming up with his film named ‘The Aquarian Gospel’ based on this book and believe it or not, Mallika Sherawat is going to be a part of this film. Yup you heard it right, however sacrilegious it may sound to some but the feisty Jat girl will be seen in the film playing Saraswati, a loyal friend of Christ, when he travels through India.

The film’s producers say the movie will be shot using actors and computer animation like 300, the retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, and will follow the travels of Jesus. Casting for other suitable Bollywood and Hollywood actors has begun.

“We think that Indian religions and Buddhism, especially with the idea of meditation, played a big part in Christ’s thinking. In the film we are looking beyond the canonised gospels to the ‘lost’ gospels,” said William Sees Keenan, the producer, who is currently making Lindsay Lohan’s Poor Things.

Carol Gracias’ wardrobe malfunction shot by Kangana Ranaut

This could be the boldest scene done by any actress in recent times. Kangana Ranaut is playing a supermodel in Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film ‘Fashion’. The movie is Bhandarkar’s exposé of the fashion industry and the scene in question is inspired from a real life incident that took place two years ago.

At a fashion show at Lakme Fashion Week in 2006, the top of model Carol Gracias’halter neck dress came off while she was walking on the ramp, and her bare bust was exposed to the cameras and the audiences. Now, Bhandarkar has incorporated a similar scene in ‘Fashion’. The scene shows Kangana Ranaut walking on a ramp when her top slips down.

Kangana willingly offered to shoot the scene herself ruling out the possibility for a body double. While shooting the scene on Wednesday, Madhur kept minimum possible people on the sets. Moreover, Carol herself dropped on the sets to check out the scene. She did not interfere with anything and left as soon as the scene was shot.

‘Hats and wigs’ birthday bash for Preity Zinta and Amrita Arora

Two beautiful Bollywood ladies share their birthdays on the same day- January 31. While Amrita Rao threw a theme party of ‘Wigs and Hats’ on Jnauary 30th night, she had Preity Zinta as her surprise guest. The two Aquarian girls even cut a cake together.

Says Preity, “Amrita is a really really sweet girl and she has been inviting me every year for us to celebrate our birthday together. This year I said I had to go. Besides it was a theme party…wigs and hats. And I love hats. I’m a very hat person. So I went in one of my favourite hats. Thank God I didn’t wear the big blonde wig as I was planning to because the whole industry was there. How would I’ve looked?”

Preity turns 33 this year and says that constant reference to her age by media irritates her. With her cricket deal finalized just a few days back, Preity was in a series of meetings on the eve of her birthday. However, on her birthday she relaxed at home watching a DVD, resting and sleeping.

Dia Mirza matches comic pace with Cyrus Broacha

When it comes to finding a co-star to match the Cyrus Boracha’s whacky comic sense, it is a tough job. This was a truly massive task for director Kunal Vijaykar who was in search for a female co-star to cast opposite Cyrus in his comic caper ‘Fruit and Nut’. Finally, the director zeroed in on one lady who was none other than Dia Mirza.

Going by her delicate looks, Dia may seem an odd choice but she just seemed to fit the bill. Unit Members say that C & D (Cyrus and Dia obviously) liven up the sets with their jokes and mischief.

King Shahrukh Khan in making of Rs 1 Billion Movie for Kids

King Khan is now on move to make a children movie loaded with special effects for whopping $ 25 million (Rs1 billion) as the costliest movie ever made in Bollywood. The rs 100 crore movie is to be produced in VFX medium using special computer- generated special effects. Shah Rukh disclosed the plan for the movie in an interview to Patrick Frater of Hollywood’s top trade magazine variety at Berlin film festival recently.

He is in communication with Eros Multimedia and Charles Darby (Related to Matrix and Minority Report) visual effect expert who has stake in Eros to start special effects Eyeqube studios in Mumbai.
Shah Rukh told he was producing movie under his home banner Red Chillies Production to be directed by Anubhav Sinha. He said, “We are dedicating the next eight or nine months to taking the best technicians from around the world and asking them to help us make the best VFX film India has ever made. It will be madcap, over the top. I want it to be as beautiful as Spider-Man in terms of effects,” Khan told Variety.

In the response to the question whether he was not courted by Hollywood he said, “I’m waiting for someone like Steven Spielberg or James Cameroon (of Titanic fame) or some other great person like Ang Lee to make a film, a film about a brown, thin, scrawny Indian guy who doesn’t speak English too well. If they ever have a character like that and Google it, I’m sure they’ll find me.”

During the interview he also admitted his home production movie Om Shanti Om was full of clichés of Indian cinema.

We as family want to go beyond moviemaking: Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai says she as well as the Bachchan household wants to do much more than moviemaking, and the opening of a rural school for girls in Uttar Pradesh named after her is the first step in that direction.
"I'm so glad I have married into a family that feels the same. They're very sensitive about life itself and I'm very glad that we as a family feel the need to do a lot more beyond our craft," Aishwarya, who is the daughter-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan, told IANS in a telephonic interview.
"This is our initial step in this direction and with everybody's support and blessings, we should be able to do a lot more in life ahead."
Aishwarya does not mind the constant public glare when something as innocuous as visiting a temple with her in-laws draws the paparazzi by the hordes.
"I think, as Pa (superstar Amitabh) has very rightly put it in several interviews before me, the fact is that today there is just a lot more media attention. We have always gone to temples or places of worship individually, even before I married into this family.
"It's just a way of life, but I guess with the widespread reach of the media today and with them being everywhere and with the number of television channels and websites and newspapers and magazines, it's going to happen," she said.
Recently, an Indian television channel, India TV, claimed that Aishwarya and top Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie could be related as research has shown that all blue-eyed people have common ancestry from centuries ago.
"This is crazy," the surprised actress broke into peals of laughter. Like most of the times, she was completely rooted to the ground, unfazed by "the strange biological parallel."
Commenting on her "foray" into Hollywood, Aishwarya said: "You know I've always said that it is not a foray - I'm not going anywhere.
"I'm just very glad of the fact that I've been fortunate enough to be able to work in cinema in the larger sense of the term, irrespective of the language or the place in the world it has been made in.
"So, be it Tamil movies; be it a Bengali film; Hindi movies; and a couple of English movies; time is a huge deciding factor in my schedule. The last English film I acted in was 'The Pink Panther 2', which will be released probably by the end of the year or early next year. Let's see what the future holds for me (in Hollywood)!"
Aishwarya will be on board for a Tamil film directed by Shankar opposite Tamil superstar Rajnikant. Titled "Robot", the film is a Rs.1 billion-project and it will be her second movie with Shankar after "Jeans" in 1988.
Incidentally, the 57-year-old southern icon Rajnikant has a daughter named Aishwarya.
Speaking about her forthcoming release "Jodhaa Akbar", which releases worldwide Feb 15, the actress said: "The decision was an instant 'Yes!' Given the character and the script and the subject, it is an actor's dream to be part of such a project."
Asked how it was working with Hrithik Roshan on two movies - "Dhoom 2" and "Jodhaa Akbar" - back-to-back, she said: "I was very lucky to get to work with Hrithik in two movies. They were so diverse in genre, energy and personality.
"At one end is 'Dhoom 2', which was so contemporary - joyous, fast and bold and today and fun! It was just wild energy. At the other end, we immediately delved into the subject with 'Jodhaa Akbar', which is so detailed, so researched and yet so pure, so spontaneous and innocent."
Aishwarya and Hrithik shared good screen chemistry in "Dhoom". And in "Jodhaa Akbar", the vibes were just as good.
"Hrithik and I became friends on the sets of 'Dhoom' because we were all part of a team working in the movie. Hrithik and (my husband) Abhishek grew up together. They were childhood friends and I instantly became a part of the team.
"The energy that we share, the comfort level that we share; I think that is what translates into chemistry on screen."
Talking about her swashbuckling, sword-fighting scene, Aishwarya said she had not undergone any formal training: "The Hollywood film 'The Last Legion' was my first experience of sword-fighting and I took to it instantly. But even here, there was no time for any kind of formal training. We did it right there on the sets."
The former Miss World will also star in a Hindi film by Sriram Raghavan, featuring John Abraham.
"He is putting the final touches to the script. When he is ready with the script, we'll decide on the schedule and when it will go on the floor."

We as family want to go beyond moviemaking: Aishwarya Rai

Small or big screen, Shah Rukh Khan is the king. He acts, dances, plays host - in short he is a true entertainer. After being on a winning spree with two blockbusters "Chak De! India" and "Om Shanti Om", he turns to television this year with two game shows.

The first one is tentatively titled "Bade Hue to Kya Hua", which is formatted on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader", a US-based game show featuring adult contestants facing questions picked directly from the textbooks of first to fifth graders.

It will be aired on STAR Plus. "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" is very popular abroad and is running in 50 countries.

Produced by Siddharth Basu's Synergy Adlabs, this is Shah Rukh's second game show for the company after the hugely successful "Kaun Banega Crorepati 3" (KBC) for the same channel.

"Shah Rukh will be hosting the Indian version of 'Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader', the biggest reality show of the past year in the US, which will be produced by Synergy Adlabs," Basu, head of Synergy Adlabs, earlier told IANS.

Reports suggest that Shah Rukh will also host the fourth season of KBC.

"We don't know when KBC is going to happen. It might come after 'Bade Hue to Kya Hua' or the end of the year. According to the contract signed between Shah Rukh and STAR, he will finish the series he has signed for," said a source close to STAR Plus.

For his first stint on KBC, Shah Rukh apparently got Rs.10 million per episode, but his remuneration for the new show is still under wraps.

Not only in films and television, he is an even bigger king of the advertising world. The superstar has paid an advance tax of Rs.270 million ($6.8 million) on his estimated income during the current financial year of 2007-08, but a major share of it has gone into paying for his income from endorsing a slew of products and other sources.

Sources in the advertising agency for which the superstar has worked reveal that his income from endorsements fetches him Rs.1.5 billion ($38 million) a year, the highest for any Indian advertising "model".

Apart from that Shah Rukh is the costliest celebrity guest. When actors like Malaika Arora Khan, Dia Mirza and Isha Koppikar charge nearly Rs.1 million to perform at a marriage, the Badshah of Bollywood charges Rs.10 million to just grace the function and add glamour.

Aftab Shivdasani and Hansikaa Motwani - New love-birds?

They would make the cutest pair in the tinsel town. If the sources are to be believed former child actors (of course grown-ups now) Aftab Shivdasani and Hansika Motwani are seeing each other.

The pair has been spotted on numerous occasions, in Mauritius, enjoying each other’s company and generally living it up. The two actors are in Mauritius as per their shooting commitments.

It so happened that one fine day, the cast and crew of the ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ began asking actress Hansikaa Motwani what actor Aftab Shivdasani was doing in her room. Shocked by the question, she tried her level best to explain that Aftab had never entered her room and that they had got it all wrong. After thirty minutes of justifications and explanations, Hansikaa was almost on the verge of tears when Govinda told her that it was just a joke they were playing on her.

There is no smoke without fire, dear Hansikaa!

Face jobs for Bollywood stars?

TOI finds out if it’s a key ingredient to survival in the industry.

SO what if Shilpa Shetty had a nose job, Sushmita Sen had silicone implants and Rakhi Sawant went a step further and took hers out? Women in Bollywood going under the knife is old news. But the now the guys seem to be following suit with face jobs. Think Shah Rukh Khan, Govinda, Shekhar Suman and Kumar Gaurav. But while it might do something for their vanity, does it help them as actors?

Cory Walia, make-up artist, says, “It’s about making use of the technology available. Today, the perception is when we have facilities, then why not use them?”

At the same time, Cory says things should not be overdone. “We know that stars like Shah Rukh are exposed to high work pressure and need work more often, but he takes it slow and makes it subtle. But somebody like Shekhar Suman makes the changes quite obvious. He shouldn’t have done so many things at the same time. Small doses of plastic surgery are okay,” he explains.

On the other hand, dermatologist Anil Abraham says the culprit is people’s mindsets. “When an actor does something to his face, he’s doing it either because he’s feeling jaded or wants to reintroduce himself,” he says.

“In India, actors are considered role models and that’s why this trend is rapidly picking up. But it’s not healthy. Natural remedies like a good diet and workouts are always better options for long-term results. These quick-fix methods will kill the actual acting skills as the actor won’t be able to give dramatic facial expressions.”

Agrees actor Anuuj Sawhney, “I believe in healthy eating, diet and exercise. No matter how good, face jobs give you an artificial look. I don’t mind minor corrections, but a whole face job is a no-no for me.”
Similarly, television actor Ram Kapoor says he will never go under the knife. “I won’t say it’s wrong, but I’m against having it done to me. I believe in taking things as they come,” he says. However, actor Ashmit Patel says he may consider a face job later. “In any case, I look younger than my age. But I won’t lie — I might get botox job done a few years later,” he says.

Looking good for the camera is a must, believes director Ravi Chopra. “As a director I’d obviously prefer a face that looks good in the frame,” he says. And the audience wants to see a handsome-looking 40-year-old man, says actor Manasi Joshi Roy, “It’s necessary for any actor to work on himself because it’s the audience that criticises actors for looking fat or having wrinkles on their face,” she adds.

Kangana Ranaut with her first endorsement

Finally, Kangana Ranaut has bagged her first endorsement project, and that too opposite none other than Salman Khan. Kangana has been chosen by a leading international shoes company Red Tape to endorse their brand of footwear which had been endorsed by Salman Khan so far.

Until now Red Tape manufactured footwear only for men with Salman as their ambassador. Now, the company is launching its female lineup with Kangana, who has already shot spots for hoardings and magazines and will soon be doing a TV ad with Salman Khan for the brand.

Apparently Red Tape has paid Kangana a whopping figure and has promised to enhance the amount by thirty percent in the next financial year. On being questioned about the reason for she being chosen for the brand, Kangana explains, “It was my my casual looks, I guess. The brand isn’t associated with formal shoes. Only sporty footwear, sneakers etc. They want me to endorse their shoes in my jeans and with my curly hair.”

Kangana is very excited about working with Salman, “It’s a good thought. I’m excited about the ad with Salman. I’ve always been his fan. I think he’s the only rock star in our cinema. I had watched him dance at an awards function and thought I’d be paired with him one day. It’s happening sooner than I thought.”
